First Youth Tournament at Mashpee-Wakeby

First of all, we’d like to thank all of the boat captains for donating their time and boats, especially Avid Anglers who donated 6 boats.  We also want to thank the other volunteers who helped out – Bob Rivet, Tom Derosier and, of course, all of the parents who helped out and brought their children.

The first tournament of the 2008 season started out with 25 mph winds and rain.  It was a tough day on the lake, with water temperatures around 55 degrees.  While some kids found fish to bite, others found the day extremely difficult.  We commend all of you children who hung in there on this tough day for your outstanding efforts and sportsmanship.  All in all we think this tournament was a huge success.  We had over 30 kids, which is our biggest and best turnout ever.  Thanks to all who attended!

We also provided a cookout for anglers and families, and raffled off a battery to the boat captains which was won by Fred Naymie of Avid Anglers.   Thanks again boat captains!

Congratulations to the junior champs.  Richie Vespa came in first place overall with 3 fish totaling 7.91 lbs.  Richie also caught big fish totaling 3.18 lbs.  Great job Richie!  Corey Hennessey came in 2^nd place with 2 fish totaling 3.53 lbs.  Justin Canada placed third with 1 fish weighing 2.88 lbs.  Great job junior anglers! 

Congratulations also to the senior champs.  Kevin Quinlan came in 1^st place with 3 fish and a total weight of 5.80 lbs.; Dan Pustis came in 2^nd with 2 fish and a total weight of 3.01 lbs.; Eddie Brunton finished third with 1 fish weighing 2.61 lbs.  Great job!

Standings and pictures are attached.  Our next tournament is June 1 at Lake Cochituate.  Please be there by 7 – the tournament is from 8 – 1.  Please let us know if you will be attending.  We hope to see you all there!
