Mass Bass Federation Team Trail Opener at Mashpee/Wakeby

Bob Rivet and Paul Carvalho Win Mass Bass Federation Team Trail Opener at Mashpee/Wakeby

mashpee1The Mass Bass Federation Trail opened up the 2014 Trail with a stop at Mashpee/Wakeby on the Cape.  The lake is known for great bag of fish at the weigh-ins.  The weather has been cold and windy, dirtying up the water which made for some tough fishing.  As always there is someone that can find the fish. The Smallmouths were starting to spawn and those that did their homework were rewarded.  The team of Bob Rivet and Paul Carvalho had an impressive bag of brown fish weighing 22.35 lb.  They also had a 3.48 lbs Smallie which took the lunker pool. Almeida and Estes Win State Team Benefit at Mashpee/Wakeby

Almeida and Estes 2014The second Mass Bass State Team Benefit was held on Mashpee Wakeby Saturday April 26, 2014; it was overcast and cool to start the day with rain off and on. The bags brought to the scale were no surprise as Mashpee always seems to kick out big bags year after year. With the fish holding in a pre-spawn phase waiting for the water to warm the majority of the fish weighed in were caught throwing jerk baits, jigs, and rattletraps. Congratulations to the top three teams:

1st Randy Almeida & Steve Estes (8 smallmouth) 26.23 lbs

2nd Bob Rivet & Steve Forand 25.72 lbs

3rd Dave Andrews & Scott Leppanen 23.82 lbs

*Honorable mention: Team McNary finishes in top 5 in back to back State Team Opens!

Lunker Largemouth went to the team of Bob Rivet & Steve Forand with a beautiful 5.86 pound slob; Lunker Smallmouth was 4.88 lbs weighed in by Randy Almeida & Steve Estes.

On behalf of the State Team we would like to thank everyone that has come out to support us at the first two tournaments. We would also like to remind everyone that our third and final State Team Benefit will be held on Saturday July 12 at Lake Winnipesaukee launching out of West Alton Marine.

Special thanks to Dave McNary and the State Team members who helped run another successful Mass Bass tournament!

Andrews and Leppanen Top Easter Bunny Open

2014 easter openThis year’s Easter Bunny Open featured better-than-usual weather, it being toward the end of April and all. But it was still no picnic on the water, with temps in the low to mid-50s chilled further by a sustained north/northwest wind of 10-12mph and gusts to 23mph for most of the day. The bluebird skies made it nicer for fishermen but did not help the bite. Water temps barely moved throughout the event, remaining in the upper 40s for the most part, barely reaching 50 in some wind-sheltered spots, but the sun seemed to have little warming effect on the water. Needless to say there was little, if any, sign of early bedding smallmouth. Continue reading
